Dear Artist,
Luiz Vilela, a recent winner in the PleinAir Salon $33,000 Art Competition sent us a message to share how life has changed after winning in Salon.
Take a look at what Luiz had to say...

"Born and raised on the family coffee and dairy farm, I had no artistic influence from my parents. They only understood coffee beans and cows! Everything I know about art, I learned by myself, driven by my curiosity and interest. After earning a BFA in Architecture and Urbanism, I continued studies in illustration and graphic design. I took
figurative painting classes at The Art Students League in New York. Though not easy, I was living the artist life.
"Years later, my art had become more well-known regionally, but I was still under the radar nationally. After receiving several awards at the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club, and after three awards from the Art Renewal Center, I decided to submit some work to the PleinAir Salon art competition.

"In October (2021), my painting of ‘Lewis Island in Winter’ won the Best Nocturne, Sunrise or Sunset award.
"Thrilled, I submitted again in November (2021) — ‘Under Paris Skies’, which earned Best Oil Painting.
"After the announcement was made of the October win, I posted it on Facebook and Instagram. My artistic life switched directions. Before winning at Salon, I didn’t have too many people commenting on my painting posts, mostly artists who
knew me personally and family & friends.
"Now, the whole world is aware of my artwork! I am receiving phone calls from galleries in Europe, within the United States, and everyone on Facebook is leaving wonderful feedback about my painting of Paris.

"Entering and winning in PleinAir Salon did change my life! I am so busy with commissions, new invitations, galleries sending me contracts to read, it’s crazy!
"Now, I just need to keep my confidence up, have good spirits, and wish me luck!
"With gratitude and joy, my best regards,
Luiz Vilela"
